Rocco WU2M has provided detailed information on this interesting, interactive and fun year-long event.
Rocco is one of the coordinators of the New York State effort.
Notices about the several other Northeastern States represented on the Hudson Valley 80 Meter Net are most welcome and encouraged to post their information on the HV 80 Website.
Below are the details.
The ARRL is conducting a 2023 yearlong operating event called Volunteers on the Air (VOTA).
As part of this effort, W1AW will be operating portable from all of the states and territories.
New York has 2 activations, one starting Jan 25th and one starting May 24th.
These activations will run for 7 days and during thattime stations from NY will get on the air as W1AW/2. Matt KB2TBS, Bob KD2QLH and I are the coordinators for the NY state effort and we reaching out to NY clubs & operators looking for volunteers to operation their stations from home as W1AW/2 during the times listed above. We have a web site that people can use to reserve time slots to operate. We have tested it and it seems to be working just fine.
It is located at http://w1aw.nnyarrl.org.
A user requests a login and once that is provided to them, they can log in and reserve time slots for whatever band and mode they wish.
Also, operators can use this site to see who is scheduled or where W1AW portable operations are taking place. Operators are encouraged to self-spot once on the air.
There is a great description and rules that the Oklahoma section put together at: http://www.arrl.org/sections/view/oklahoma. Activators will be provided with a document that explains the logging process.
This is being streamlined and finalized now.
We expect to have this document available within the next 24 hours. If you would like to contact us you can send an email to vota@nnyarrl.org to reach our entire team.
