Amateur radio operators have many skills which can help others in their local communities.
When folks have small appliances, clocks, toasters, lamps, vacuum cleaners, toys, and other similar items that have ceased to work Repair Cafés held around the world provide a place where they can find help, Ham radio operators often serve as ‘repair coaches’ at such gatherings sharing their skill and expertise with others.
The next Mid-Hudson café will be held in Esopus, NY on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ascension Holy Trinity Church, 1585 U.S. Route 9W, West Park. Refreshments will be available along with a children’s table.
A full schedule of regional cafes is online at http://www.repaircafehv.org/. There is never a fee to attend a café, although participants may occasionally need to bear the cost of small parts.
In Ulster County, in addition to two locations in Esopus, cafes take place in Gardiner, Kingston, New Paltz, the Rondout Valley and Woodstock.
If you have a Repair Café or similar event in your community, you are invited to post it on the HV 80 website.
