Location: East Fishkill Community Library Alley Room 348 Route 376, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533 After passing their Tech exam, the use of VHF and UHF FM repeaters are usually a new ham's first exposure to on the air communications. This presentation will explore how repeaters work, and decipher commonly heard terms such as: shift, offset, split, oddball split, input, output, uplink, downlink, PL, CTCSS, simplex, reverse, and time out.
A demonstration of manually programming a simplex and a repeater channel into an entry level handheld transceiver (HT) will be performed. Time permitting or possibly included in a follow-up presentation will be how to use the CHIRP pc software to program an HT.
This presentation is intended for all amateurs (new and old) who have struggled with programming their handhelds and mobile radios. So pull that HT out of your drawer and learn what it takes to program it. Once you know what is required, it is not that difficult. You'll gain the satisfaction of being able to program it yourself.
